Role Overview

We are seeking a visionary Managing Director based in Malta to lead our operations in Malta, overseeing the strategic and operational growth of our Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) and Electronic Money Institution (EMI) functions.

With a deep understanding of the fintech environment, the Managing Director drives business growth through strategic partnerships, high-impact business deals, and a robust network of industry contacts. This role ensures compliance with the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) and other EU/Maltese regulations, requiring a full-time commitment to lead the organisation to success in a competitive and regulated landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and execute the strategic vision for Aqovia’s CASP and EMI operations, ensuring alignment with crypto and electronic money operations with corporate objectives. 
• Maintain full compliance with MiCA (Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation) and other relevant EU/Maltese financial regulations.
• Oversee operational excellence, spanning compliance, risk management, IT security, and platform functionality for both crypto and EMI services.
• Cultivate industry relationships, leveraging fintech networks to secure high-value business deals and partnerships. 
• Act as the primary Aqovia liaison with the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), investors, and key stakeholders, ensuring regulatory and operational transparency.

What We Are Looking For

• A degree in business, finance, law, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience). 
• 10+ years of executive leadership experience within fintech, crypto-assets, and/or electronic money services. 
• In-depth knowledge of crypto platforms, EMI operations, and EU/Maltese financial regulations (including MiCA). 
• Proven track record in strategic partnerships and business growth, with an established fintech network. 
• Strong leadership, negotiation, and analytical skills, with a results-oriented approach.
