Overview:
The Head of Compliance is responsible for ensuring the Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) adheres to all regulatory requirements under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), Maltese financial services laws, and other applicable EU standards. Based in Malta, this role oversees the development and implementation of a comprehensive compliance framework, ensuring the organization operates within legal and ethical boundaries while mitigating regulatory risks. The Head of Compliance serves as a key liaison with the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA) and collaborates with the MLRO and other departments to maintain a culture of compliance in a dynamic fintech environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement, and maintain a compliance program tailored to MiCA requirements, including governance, risk management, and client protection standards.
- Monitor and ensure adherence to Maltese financial regulations, EU directives, and international best practices relevant to crypto-asset services.
- Conduct regular compliance audits, risk assessments, and reviews to identify and address potential regulatory gaps or issues.
- Collaborate with the MLRO to align AML/CTF policies with broader compliance objectives, ensuring a cohesive regulatory approach.
- Act as the primary point of contact for the MFSA, managing regulatory reporting, inspections, and inquiries effectively.
Qualifications:
- Degree in law, finance, business, or a related field; professional compliance certifications (e.g., CCO, ICA) are highly desirable.
- At least 7-10 years of experience in compliance leadership, ideally within fintech, crypto-assets, or regulated financial services.
- In-depth knowledge of MiCA, Maltese financial regulations, and EU compliance frameworks, with a focus on crypto-asset operations.
- Proven ability to develop and manage compliance programs in a regulated environment, with strong analytical and risk management skills.
- Exceptional communication and leadership skills, with the ability to engage regulators and foster a compliance-focused culture across teams.
