Job Description:
Aqovia is looking for a Technical Business Analyst to join our software engineering department. You will work in fast-paced development teams for our own products and/or client projects. As a Technical Analyst you will be working on our consulting projects, primarily designing RESTful API services.
Key responsibilities:
- Capture and curate business requirements and system documentation in JIRA/Confluence, including user stories, API design and API enhancements.
- Write estimate-able user stories for developers in JIRA, including clear and testable acceptance criteria.
- Design RESTful web APIs for new and existing products in an API-first context, aligned with technical architecture guidance.
- Collaborate with engineering teams and business stakeholders to:
- Design RESTful web APIs
- Design data models
- Design event-driven processes in distributed/microservices architectures
- Specify contracts for messaging and web services, primarily using JSON Schema and OpenAPI Specification (Swagger).
- Validate and verify APIs by creating requests and asserting responses in Postman.
- Document processes and data models using BPMN.
- Define acceptance test scenarios using DSLs such as Gherkin and generate test datasets.
- Support Delivery Managers, Product Owners, and QA teams during acceptance testing.
- Participate in agile ceremonies as an integrated member of the team.
- Write customer-facing documentation.
- Coach/mentor junior analysts.
- Support data engineers responsible for onboarding customers and data into the platform.
Minimum qualification, skills and experience:
- Strong understanding of REST and its application to web APIs, proficient with tools such as Postman and Insomnia.
- Knowledge of HTTP headers, authentication, authorisation, and response codes.
- Commitment to agile and lean development principles.
- Commercial experience as a technical business analyst across multiple customers/projects.
- Excellent business, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills: able to translate business needs for technical teams and simplify complex concepts for non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience writing user stories for agile development teams.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Experience documenting processes using BPMN and UML.
- Understanding of event-driven workflows.
- Comfortable working with source control tools (e.g., Git) to manage API specifications.
- Proficient at testing web APIs, including crafting authentication tokens.
- Proficient in SQL.
Highly valuable experience in one or more of the following:
- Strong background across FinTech APIs, BaaS platforms, embedded finance, and Open Banking (consent models, data access, secure API design).
- Familiarity with financial messaging standards (ISO 20022, OpenAPI specs, bank interfaces).
- Exposure to crypto/digital asset ecosystems, including wallets, custody, tokenisation, reconciliation, and relevant regulatory frameworks.
- Experience with regulated financial entities (Banking Licence / EMI), virtual IBAN structures, and fiat–crypto exchange workflows.
- Understanding of African and Middle Eastern currency markets, cross-border FX, and trading of major/exotic currency pairs.
- Awareness of regulatory environments across Africa and the Middle East.
- Competent in rapid prototyping, wireframing, and agile delivery (Scrum PO/SM experience preferred).
